Police Officer Injured In Accident On West Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago police officer was injured in an accident on the West Side on Monday.

Chopper 2 showed video of an officer being placed on a stretcher near Roosevelt and Independence.

It appears his squad car was struck by another vehicle, possibly an SUV.

The officer was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in an unknown condition following the crash, Baety said. The other person involved was taken to Saint Anthony Hospital, also in an unknown condition.

The crash happened less than a block away from where firefighters battled the earlier blaze, police said.

The fire was burning in the rear of an auto repair shop, and was extinguished before 7 a.m.
