CHICAGO (CBS) – Police were asking for the public’s help in locating the driver who struck an 8-year-old boy on the Far South Side on Wednesday and fled the scene.

Around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, during a heavy rainstorm, an 8-year-old boy was hit by a passing car in front of Aldridge School at 630 E. 131st St., according to Chicago police.

The boy was in serious condition at an unidentified hospital, police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said Friday afternoon.

It was not immediately known if the boy was a student at that school.

A description of the vehicle was not available, but anyone with information was asked to call the police Major Accident Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521.
