WILMETTE, Ill. (CBS) – A Chicago teen has been arrested for breaking a woman’s hand while trying to steal her purse in Wilmette.

As WBBM Newsradio 780′s Nancy Harty reports, bond was set at $15,000 Wednesday for James Myer, 17, of the 6800 block of South Dorchester Avenue.

Wilmette police said Myer walked into a business on the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue in the upscale suburb, and tried to take a woman’s purse.

The woman tried to stop Myer, and before he fled the store, Myer broke bones in the woman’s hand, police said.

A store employee pursued Myer out of the store, and caught and held him until police arrived.

Myer is charged with strongarm robbery, and is due back in court June 20 at the Skokie Courthouse.
