White Sox Claim Pitcher Septimo Off Waivers

CHICAGO (WSCR) The Chicago White Sox have claimed left-handed pitcher Leyson Septimo off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team announced on Monday.

The 25-year old Septimo was sent the White Sox’s Class AA Birmingham affiliate.

In 29.2 innings pitched for Class AA Mobile this season, Septimo was 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA and 22 strikeouts. He held opposing batters to a .202 batting average, including .186 against righties.

Originally signed as a free agent on February 19, 2003, Septimo was selected to participate in the 2009 All-Star Futures Game and named to the 2010 midseason Southern League All-Star Team.

In four years in the Diamondbacks’ farm system, Septimo racked up 14 saves and 192 strikeouts in 135 appearances. He had a 5.79 ERA over 172.2 innings pitched.
