Man, 59, Found Slain In Unincorporated Mokena

MOKENA, Ill. (CBS) — Police are trying to find out who killed a 59-year-old southwest suburban man whose body was found in his home after a burglary.

Around 11 p.m. Tuesday, Will County sheriff’s police were called to a home in the 13300 block of 184th place in unincorporated Mokena just north of Interstate 80.

Police were called for a burglary, and family members at the home said they had not heard from its resident, Dwight Jones, since Friday. They had come to check on him, and found that the back sliding glass door was unlocked and the home had been ransacked.

A decomposed body believed to be that of Jones was found in the master bedroom, police said. The Will County coroner’s office has not released an official identity because the body was beginning to decompose.

But the death has already been ruled a homicide. Police also discovered that Jones’ 2008 gray, four-door Volkswagen Jetta, Illinois license plate A234576, was missing from his garage.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Will County Sheriff’s office, at (815) 727-8574, or leave an anonymous tip through the sheriff’s office Web site.

CBS why do you guys always misspell words on your news heading?. It’s Mokena not Monkena.

  • Mike Fangman

Monkena? Is it really too much trouble to look at a map?

For those of you who don’t know, a “map” is a papery GPS-like thing that people used in the past to find locations and directions.

  • Steve

Maybe, to save time and money, they decided against the spell check option for their publishing software. It amazes me how much misspelling there is in the news. I’ve seen it on the websites for ABC and CNN as well. Haven’t been to NBC or Fox websites to know if they have the same problem.

You should proof read – Mokena is spelled like that not Monkena as listed on the title of the article.

  • Doh

Is the license plate really “A234567?” Sounds like a number you make up when you’re filling out a form

    • Roberta Waker

Thought the article said it was A234576???

He is a neighbor and was very friendly. Very sad that something terrible happened to a nice guy.
