Video Of Storm Damage Across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hurricane force winds created widespread damage and power outages across Chicago and the suburbs. Here is a collection of video that shows the impact of the storm:

CBS 2's Susanna Song reports near Cumberland Avenue and Golf Road in Des Plaines, a tall, thick tree was ripped down. The tree was so big that it nearly hit the house just behind it.

CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports the campus of Downers Grove South High School, 1436 Norfolk St., sustained damage to its sports fields.

In Wheeling, the winds snapped power lines and twisted trees near Strong Avenue and Second Street.

ComEd was working to restore power to hundreds of thousands of people who were left in the dark on Tuesday night. In Maywood the Cook County Courthouse is closed

From Chopper 2, Kris Habermehl found significant damage in Mount Prospect.

The storms did plenty of damage at O'Hare International Airport. High winds tore off roofs and damaged a United aircraft.

From Chopper 2, Kris Habermehl along with National Weather Service Meteorologist, Jim Allsopp found that Downers Grove had a path of destruction after a tornado touched down.
