Police Issue Photo Of Car Used By Armed Robbers

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police have released an image of the getaway car in hopes of finding three men who robbed five people at gunpoint in their South Side garages earlier this month.

Four of the robberies happened on June 11, with the earliest at 10:55 a.m. in the 1200 block of East 95th Place, according to a community alert issued by Calumet Area detectives.

Three black men approached a 38-year-old man in his garage. One pointed a firearm at the man, then took his property before the offenders fled in a late model blue Chevrolet Impala.

Less than 20 minutes later in the 0-100 block of East 89th, two black men approached a 45-year-old woman as she was pulling her vehicle into her garage. They pointed a firearm at her and took her purse, the alert said.

They then got into the rear of a late model four-door Chevrolet driven by a third offender. There may also have been a fourth offender in the front passenger seat, the alert said.

At noon the same day in the 8000 block of South Sangamon, two black men approached a 55-year-old man as he was loading his truck in the alley. One pointed a firearm at him and they took his wallet, the alert said.

Thirty minutes later in the 8600 block of South Normal, two black men approached a 62-year-old man and 63-year-old woman as they stood outside of their garages. They pointed a firearm at the victims and took property from them before fleeing in a blue Chevy Impala, the alert said.

The last robbery happened June 17 in the 9800 block of South King Drive about 12:20 p.m. Three black men approached a 63-year-old man and 66-year-old woman in their garage, pointed a firearm, struck the woman in the face and took property.

The offenders are described as between 18 and 25, 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall. They used a Tec-9-type black handgun with a vented barrel and extended clip, the alert said.
