1 Dead, 14 Wounded In Shootings Overnight

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 55-year-old man was killed and at least 14 others were wounded in shootings throughout the city between late Saturday and Sunday morning, including five men wounded in separate shootings during a violent 20-minute period on the South Side.

The shooting started at 10:30 p.m. when two men were shot in the 4700 block of South Ada Street, said police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines. Both men were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in unknown conditions, police said.

At 10:41 p.m., a man was shot in the face and under the arm in the 6200 block of South Laflin Street, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The victim -- identified as Kent Richardson, 55, of 1520 W. 77th St. -- was pronounced dead at Christ at 4:03 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

About 11 p.m., a man was shot in the 4400 block of South Marshfield Avenue, Gaines said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in "stable" condition.

About the same time, a man was shot in the abdomen area four blocks west in the 4400 block of South Honore Street, police said. He was taken in "stable" condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Farther south, a man was shot near South Laflin Avenue and West Marquette Road about 10:40 p.m., Gaines said. He was taken to Christ hospital in an unidentified condition.

At 1:08 a.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the torso in the 1100 block of East 82nd Place, Gaines said. The victim was taken in "guarded" condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

At 1:40 a.m., a 45-year-old man was shot in the shoulder while driving a vehicle in the 7600 block of South Coles Avenue, Gaines said. The victim drove himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he is in "stable" condition.

At 1:50 a.m., five people were shot in the 1300 block of South Springfield Avenue, Gaines said. The victims were taken to area hospitals.

About 3 a.m. the man was shot on the 500 block of West Pearson Street, according to Ronald Gaines. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

At 3:20 a.m., a male was shot in the groin area in the 1800 block of South Desplaines Street, Gaines said. The victim was taken in an unidentified condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
