George Ryan had been allowed to leave the federal prison in Terre Haute, Ind., to be at Lura Lynn's side Monday night when she died, but he apparently didn't get the same privilege on Tuesday for her burial.

"He was not there. I don't know the circumstances, but he was not there," Thompson said of the burial.

Thompson said he was not at the service either, since it was "family only," but he said he understands it was a "very brief service."

According to the Associated Press, Schreffler Funeral Homes in the Ryans' hometown of Kankakee handled the funeral arrangements. Representatives said the family asked that details of the services and burial not be released.

A public memorial was scheduled for Friday at Schreffler Funeral Home, according to the AP.

Lura Lynn Ryan died late Monday night after being taken off a respirator. She had been suffering from a long battle with lung cancer and lung disease. Her husband was at her side for a few hours before she died and took part in the decision to take her off her respirator.
