Montador Excited To Be A Blackhawk

CHICAGO (CBS) One thing has become obvious among NHL players the last few years: Chicago has become one of the most desirable places to play.

Almost every new Blackhawk over the last three years has talked about how excited they are to play at the United Center in front of the fans. New Blackhawks defenseman Steve Montador is no different.

"I love to come play there because the energy of the building, especially over the last couple of years -- mixed with everything that is available with the city and everything that comes with it --  and how great of a sports town it is, makes it really attractive," Montador said after signing a four-year deal with the Blackhawks Thursday.

The 31 year-old defenseman led the Buffalo Sabres with 128 blocked shots last season and the Blackhawks home he'll bring some depth to the defense.

"It's very exciting for me," Montador said. "Over the past few weeks I was talking to my agent and getting prepared for July 1st ... and looking at the things I wanted out of a team and having put myself in an opportunity in my career to hopefully have a number of opportunities to choose from, the No. 1 thing I was looking for was a chance to win a Stanley Cup. It came sooner than I'd expected."
