Sailboat Capsizes On Lake, But All Seven Aboard Are Safe

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A small sailboat belonging to a sailing school capsized in Montrose Harbor on Thursday evening, throwing seven people overboard, but all were safe and accounted for, a U.S. Coast Guard official said.

Responders, including the Coast Guard and Chicago Fire Department, were called to Montrose Harbor around 7 p.m. for reports of a capsized sailboat, Coast Guard Petty Officer Jeff Hendrix said.

By the time crews arrived, all seven occupants had been pulled out of the water, Hendrix said. It was unclear who rescued them.

There were no injuries, and no one was hospitalized, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.

Hendrix said the boat was part of a sailing class, but had no further information.

As of 7:30 p.m., crews were responding to reports of a second capsized boat in Belmont Harbor, but no boat had been found, Rosado said.
