Men Charged With Burglarizing South Suburban Storage Facility

MARKHAM, Ill. (CBS) -- Three men have been charged with burglarizing lockers at a storage facility in the southern suburbs, after allegedly showing up in a U-Haul to take away more loot when management was already on to them.

David Yates, 40, of Robbins; and Bennie Jackson, 26, and Darren Jackson, both of the 400 block of East 134th Street in Chicago, have all been charged with two counts of burglary and retail theft.

Cook County Sheriffs' police say the burglars targeted a storage facility in the 16100 block of George Brennan Highway in unincorporated Bremen Township. One of the burglars actually rented a storage locker so they could get the gate code for the facility.

On June 26, they pulled up in a U-Haul truck, went in the storage facility, and cut the locks on 17 lockers. They stole items that could easily be sold at flea markets, including $6,000 in tools that they took from a storage locker owned by a painting company, sheriff's police said.

The men drove the U-Haul to Harvey and met a fence, who gave them $800 for the stolen goods, sheriff's police said.

The manager of the storage facility suspected the alleged offenders right when she found the locks had been cut, sheriff's police said. When the group showed up to the facility in another empty U-Haul they planned to fill with more stolen goods, the manager called police.

The men admitted to the break-ins and were charged, according to sheriff's police.

Bond for Yates and for Bennie Jackson was set at $30,000, and bond for Darren Jackson at $20,000, on July 1, according to sheriff's police.
