CHICAGO (CBS) — Two people tried to rob a Chicago Police officer in the South Side’s Oakland neighborhood overnight, by hitting him in the head with a brick.

The officer was in the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Friday, when two male suspects came up and tried to rob him, police said.

One of the suspects hit the officer with the brick, prompting the office to fire a shot at the suspect, police said. No one was hit by the gunfire, and the suspects fled the scene.

The officer suffered minor head injuries and was listed in good condition at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center early Friday, police said.

No one was in custody, and no description of the suspects was available early Friday.
