Firefighter Injured Battling West Side Blaze

CHICAGO (STMW) - A firefighter was hospitalized with minor injuries after he slipped and fell while batting a West Side blaze early Saturday.

The firefighter was taken in good to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight.

The firefighter slipped while fighting a fire at an abandoned two-story building at 4516 W. Harrison St., according to Knight, who said the firefighter's injuries were minor.

Fire crews responded to the West Harrison Street address about 12:30 a.m. and extinguished the flames about an hour later, according to Knight.

No one else was injured in the fire, Knight said.
