MAYWOOD, Ill. (STMW) – Two teenage boys were slain in possibly related shootings that occurred two hours apart in west suburban Maywood early Saturday.

At 12:10 a.m., 16-year-old Maywood resident Sherron Drane was outside with an 19-year-old male acquaintance who is also from Maywood when someone on foot fired several shots on Harvard Street between 2nd and 3rd avenues, striking them, according to Maywood police Chief Tim Curry.

The 19-year-old was shot in the left arm pit area and was taken to Loyola where his condition was not life-threatening. But Drane, of 1606 S. 13th Ave. in Maywood, was shot in the chest and died, Curry said.

He was was pronounced dead at 1:37 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The two teens “may have been coming from a party in the area,’’ when the attack occurred, the chief said.

At 2:10 a.m. about a mile and a half away in the 1000 block of South 14th Avenue, Demetrius A. Delacy was shot twice in the head and once in the side chest and killed, according to Curry.

Delacy, 17, of the 1000 block of 14th Ave. in Maywood, was pronounced dead at 2:49 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center, according to the medical examiner’s office.

When asked if the shooter could have been the same in the two attacks, the chief said he did not know but said different guns were used in the shootings, which occurred in areas that are not normally considered dangerous.

“I think these occurrences are isolated’’ he said of the murders.

Police were investigating the possibility the slain teens may have been involved with the same party prior to the attacks, but a motive was not known as of Saturday afternoon, the chief said.

Police continue to interview witnesses but no arrests were made.

The medical examiner’s office identified the 16-year-old as Sharon Draine, of the 300 block of Bellwood Ave. in Bellwood, and Curry listed Delacy’s home in the 800 block of South 11th Ave. in Maywood.
