Forget Candy, Attempted Abductor Offers To Pay Cell Phone Bill

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man who tried to lure a young girl into his van Tuesday morning in the South Side Englewood neighborhood used a new tactic, telling her he'd pay her cell phone bill.

It happened about 8:15 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Racine Avenue, according to a community alert from Wentworth Area detectives.

The man tried to get the 14-year-old girl to get into a van by telling her he would pay her cell phone bill. He then followed her into a school parking lot but fled when she ran toward the school, the alert said.

The man was driving a medium blue, smaller-sized passenger van with windows. He is described as being between 40 and 50, black with a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a red baseball hat and white t-shirt.

Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 747-8380.
