Woman, 29, Shot Dead Near Dominican University

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (CBS) — A 29-year-old woman is dead, after being shot in the head in a parking lot near Dominican University in River Forest overnight.

Two suspects were in custody Tuesday morning.

Authorities say Chervon Alexander, 29, of the 1300 block of North Mayfield Avenue in Chicago, was shot multiple times at 7200 W. Division St. in River Forest. Police don’t know if Alexander was a student.

She was apparently involved in some sort of argument with two men, one of whom pulled out a gun and shot her in the parking lot near the school.

Alexander was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 11:04 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Witnesses were able to help police track down the suspects.

“We broadcast some additional information from witnesses to a vehicle description and a possible offender description. The vehicle was spotted by members of the Forest Park Police Department, who conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle,” said River Forest police Sgt. Jim O’Shea. “Two suspects at that time were taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered.”

No charges had been issued as of 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.
