Controversy-Ridden County Highway Supt. To Step Down
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The superintendent of Cook County's Highway Department, Rupert Graham, is stepping down.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Dave Marsett reports, Graham had been an assistant superintendent under former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger. He was promoted to the top seat in the department in 2007, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle would only say Graham "resigned," the newspaper reported.
Graham was criticized for such actions as setting aside "no-drive days" for county highway workers on the premise of saving gasoline, even though maintaining roads is the workers' job.
Several county commissioners also called for Graham's resignation, following a Sun-Times report that indicated department staffers had been receiving overtime pay on days when they were either sick or on vacation.
