North Chicago School Officials Indicted

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A former North Chicago school board member and the district's former transportation director are under federal indictment today.

The U.S. attorney's office says they're charged with allegedly receiving kickbacks totaling at least $800,000 from three people who controlled companies that received $21 million in bus contracts over nearly a decade.

Those under indictment include former school board member Gloria Harper and former Transportation Director Alice Sherrod.

Also indicted are former transportation businessmen Derrick Eubanks, Tommie Boddie and Barrett White.

All but White are also charged with multiple counts of filing false federal income tax returns.
