Fire Damages Lake Shore Drive High-Rise Condo Complex

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Lake Shore Drive high-rise sustained serious damage in an extra-alarm fire over the weekend.

The fire broke out early Sunday in a storage area of the 18-story twin-tower condo complex at 3600 N. Lake Shore Dr., at Addison Street, fire officials said.

Dispatch reports indicated the fire started about 12:20 a.m. Sunday and was elevated to an extra-alarm blaze by 12:35 a.m. The fire department said the blaze was out about 1 a.m.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze with a single hose and prevented smoke from reaching the upper floors, the fire department said.

Neighbors on the Facebook page "Take Back Boystown" reported a helicopter flying in a low loop over the neighborhood during the fire, as well as a fleet of fire vehicles and ambulances.

Nobody was injured in the fire. No information was revealed about the cause.
