Police: Missing Boy, 16, May Be Suicidal

CHICAGO (CBS) — Police are searching for a missing 16-year-old boy, who is off his medication and may be suicidal.

Roman Butler was last in contact with family on June 30, according to an alert from Grand Central Area detectives.

He was reported missing from the 1700 block of North LeClaire Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood, and may be in the area of Stevenson Park, along Lake Street near Lombard Avenue in Oak Park, police said.

Butler is African-American, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 130 pounds with brown eyes and a medium complexion. Police say he is depressed and has been off his medications for several weeks.

Anyone with information should call police at (312) 746-8365.

Why are we only hearing about this now?

  • Guy at Work

It’s a total double standard. If he was some pretty little white girl from the North Shore who went missing a few days ago, you would hear about it constantly.

I agree with you Guy at Work, and there’s no ignoring the truth.

guy at work – get a life !

Since you are also on here posting a comment, I suggest you get a life.

I am merely expressing my point of view. I am not black. I do not have a grudge against whitey. I am not a flaming liberal that believes bad behavior is justified by poor socio-economic conditions.

I am simply implying that the news is not fair and balanced. I’ve arrived at this conclusion from observing the news for many years.

Maybe you should learn to argue rationally instead of reacting emotionally.

…and you just now telling us on July 26th, he been gone since June 30th, we about to hit August!!!!! Maybe he shoulda painted his face WHITE before he took off. I tell ya about our…. smgdh

    • Whitey

“he been gone since June 30th, we about to hit August!!!!!!” I’m guessing that Lisa Culbert is black. The laziness exhibited in her comment above is an example of why many people do not take the black community seriously. Many of them don’t care enough to better themselves, so why should anyone else care?

I think everyone in here is missing the point. There is no changing the fact that we are just now finding out about this. The only thing we can try and change is the outcome of it. This kid is 16, he needs our help. Black, white, brown, yellow; does any of this really matter. Stop being so caught up in the “race” and be more concerned about the face. Find this kid before he hurts himself or somebody else. There is a fine line between suicidal and homicidal, and who knows where he’s at at this point.
