Man, 75, Dead After Lincoln Avenue Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 75-year-old Uptown man his died, after the minivan he was driving slammed into a median barrier on busy Lincoln Avenue over the weekend.

Dong Kim, 75, of the 4500 block of North Clarendon Avenue, was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m. Monday at Evanston Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Kim was driving a 1997 Mercury Villager northwest in the 5700 block of North Lincoln Avenue, near the junction with California Avenue, about 4:10 a.m. Saturday when he struck a median barrier, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

The stretch of Lincoln Avenue where the fatal crash occurred is a four-lane highway that carries U.S. 41.

The minivan sustained extensive damage and the air bag deployed, Mirabelli said. Kim was extricated by the minivan by Chicago firefighters.

An autopsy Tuesday revealed that Kim died of multiple injuries from a van striking a fixed object and the death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
