Schuster: No Timetable For Konerko's Return

By David Schuster-

CHICAGO (CBS) Paul Konerko's return to action is up in the air with no definitive date.

Konerko was hit by a pitch in Sunday's game and left the game in a lot of pain. Initially the injury was diagnosed as a bruised calf but it has now been expanded to a deep bone bruise and it's actually closer to the knee.

Konerko says he's still in a lot of discomfort.

"It's still real stiff and real sore," he said. "I've never been hit in this area and never as hard as I did yesterday (Sunday). It's real weak and I'm just trying to get as much treatment as I can to hopefully get the inflammation out."

As to when he might return, Konerko remarked: "I couldn't imagine taking a swing right now. It's my front leg and for hitting you have to plant that foot and leg and it has to be able to withstand all the torque and right now it's just too weak. Eventually the pain and discomfort will subside but I'm not there just yet."
