Man Burns Kids For Eating Snacks

GARY, Ind. (STMW) - A man allegedly burned his girlfriend's two small children that he lived with because he was upset about the snacks they were eating.

On July 21, a family member contacted the Indiana State Police about alleged child abuse that occurred while visiting the childrens' mother, according to an Indiana State Police release. The two children, ages three-and six-years old, were taken into a closet and burned by the mother's live-in boyfriend sometime between July 17-21.

Daniel Allison Junior, 24, of Gary, allegedly burned the six-year-old with a lighter on his nose, causing a second degree burn, and the three year-old with a cigarette on his wrist, because he was upset about the snacks the children were eating, the release said..

The childrens' mother, Crystal Kurek, 25, of Gary, became aware of the incident, and allegedly did nothing and assisted in covering up the facts, the release said.

Allison was charged and arrested for two felony counts of battery, the release said. Kurek was charged and arrested for one felony count of assisting a criminal. Both were taken and incarcerated at Lake County Jail in Crown Point.
