Branch has been in the Kane County Jail since November 2009, when she was accused of ramming her car into John Keyes, 17, crushing him against a building on Center Street in Elgin, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Branch allegedly hit Keyes with her car after Keyes got into a fight with her son. The son, Lacorbek Benion, has also been charged with Keyes' murder, for allegedly hitting him with a baseball bat as he lay injured from being hit by the car, the Tribune reported.

Prosecutors say they will call witnesses to the crime. Branch has decided on a bench trial – in which the judge will decide her fate – rather than take her chances with a jury.
