Child Bicyclist Hospitalized After Crashing Into Police Vehicle

CHICAGO (STMW) — A 10-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized after apparently riding into the side of a police vehicle Wednesday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood.

The crash happened about 5 p.m. in the 5500 block of Van Buren Street, police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said. A bicyclist struck the side of a police vehicle and was taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries, she said, citing preliminary information.

The 10-year-old bicyclist was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.

Police could not immediately provide further details at 6 p.m.

I can’t wait to hear about the negligence of the police department for causing the accident. Or what about how the vehicle was driving without lights and sirens or better yet….an undercover vehicle that blended into the background so well that an innocent 10 year old didn’t see it. I’m sorry the kid got hurt but if a lawsuit actually comes out of this something is very very wrong. Oh – maybe the police could sue the kid for being stupid!
