Mom Convicted Of Killing Teen With Car In Elgin

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (CBS) -- A Streamwood mother has been found guilty of killing a teen with her car in Elgin two years ago.

The Kane County State's Attorney's office said following a bench trial, Timera Branch, 35, was convicted by Kane County Judge Allen M. Anderson of first-degree murder in the death of John Keyes III, 17, of Elgin.

On Nov. 8, 2009, Branch slammed into Keyes with her 1991 Chrysler Imperial and crushed him against an apartment building in the 200 block of Center Street in Elgin. The judge found that after the incident, she got out of her severely damaged car and urged some other people to continue the attack with another car.

Branch is due in court for sentencing on Set. 28.

Branch allegedly hit Keyes with her car after Keyes got into a fight with her son. The son, Lacorbek Benion, has also been charged with Keyes' murder, for allegedly hitting him with a baseball bat as he lay injured from being hit by the car, the Chicago Tribune reported.
