Old Town Gas Leak Prompts Hazmat Response

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Construction crews hit a gas main Friday morning in the Old Town neighborhood, prompting a hazardous materials response.

Around 8:40 a.m., a the Fire Department called a Level 1 Hazmat for the gas leak at North Avenue and Sedgwick Street, fire officials said.

A construction crew hit a gas main, causing the leak, Rosado said. No evacuations were necessary.

At 9:19 a.m., the hazmat response was canceled and no one was hurt.

The scene of the gas leak is just below a busy Brown Line 'L' stop.
