CHICAGO (CBS) — Mayor Rahm Emanuel has joined the bipartisan group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, in the company of hundreds of other mayors nationwide.

As WBBM Newsradio’s Dave Marsett reports, Mayor Emanuel says almost half of the guns recovered in Chicago come from outside Illinois. He says Chicago has to work with other cities to fight gun trafficking and pass federal legislation.

Chicago officials say more than 80 percent of murder victims last year were killed with a gun.

The group is five years old and is co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The mayors of Evanston, Maywood, Normal, Quincy and Rockford, as well as Gary, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Columbus, Angola and Bloomington, Ind., are also part of the group.
