Roy Williams Denies Dropping The Ball

(CBS) Roy Williams has yet to catch a pass in two preseason games, but many believe he should have.

Jay Cutler targeted Williams on the Bears' first drive Monday night in New York and while Williams appeared to have the ball in his hands, he was stripped by a Giants cornerback Aaron Ross and the ball fell to the ground. The officials originally ruled it a catch, but it was changed to an incomplete pass after the Giants challenged.

Then, on the Bears' second drive, Cutler targeted Williams again on third down, but the pass led Williams a little too much and it appeared to go through his outstretched hands. Williams was covered well on the play.

Still, many fans and reporters called both failed connections "drops", which Williams completely disagrees with.

"Who had a drop? I had a drop? I didn't have a drop, but if you want to count it you can," Williams said Wednesday about the first play. "I think the DB made a great play to knock it out as soon as it got into my hands so I didn't drop the ball, but if you want to call it a drop, go ahead."

As for the second play?

"It went through my hands? The slant?," Williams questioned. "Yeah, I gotta catch that ball, man," he said sarcastically. "My fault. I'll catch it next time, coach."
