(CBS) A visit from a very talented Baylor team headlines Northwestern’s 2011-12 non-conference basketball schedule, which the team released Wednesday.
The Bears will make the trip to Welsh-Ryan Arena Dec. 4. The team features forward Perry Jones III who likely would have been a lottery pick in June’s NBA Draft, but chose to return to Baylor despite facing a five-game suspension to start the season. Jones should be back in time to play the Wildcats.
Northwestern has two notable road games on the slate as well. As was previously announced, the ‘Cats will play Georgia Tech Nov. 29 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. That game will be played at Phillips Arena in Atlanta. NU will also make a trip to Creighton Dec. 22.
Also, as was previously announced, the Wildcats will play LSU in the first-round of the Charleston Classic, which runs from Nov. 17-20 in Charleston, S.C. Depending on the first round results, they will either play Western Kentucky or Tulsa Nov. 18. There is also the possibility of them facing Georgia Tech twice in nine days as the Yellow Jackets are one of four possible opponents in the team’s final game of the tournament. VCU, Seton Hall and St. Joseph’s are the other possible opponents.
It should also be noted that the Wildcats have two non-conference games scheduled on back-to-back days (Dec. 17-18) against Central Connecticut and Eastern Illinois. Both of those games will be played at home.
