2 Injured At LAX When Jetway For Plane From O'Hare Collapses

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were injured at Los Angeles International Airport in the collapse of a jetway for at plane that had just arrived from Chicago.

As CBS Los Angeles reports, the captain and a passenger fell 10 feet to the tarmac below when a section of flooring collapsed at the end of the American Airlines jetway. The jetway is the moveable walking ramp that connects planes to the terminal.

American Airlines Flight 557 had just arrived from O'Hare International Airport when the accident happened around 8:40 p.m. Chicago time.

Both were transported to Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Marina del Rey in fair condition, a fire department spokesman said. They complained of pain to their ankles, back and necks, according to the Los Angeles Times.

American Airlines spokeswoman Rhonda Rathje said the passenger was treated and released. She did not know the status of the pilot.
There was no damage to the aircraft, airport spokeswoman Diana Sanchez said.

The flight, which originated in Boston and had a stopover at O'Hare, was carrying 107 passengers and crew members.
