Les Grobstein Show - 8/25/11 *UPDATE*

GROBBER---Sept 25,2011
============================

***A chance for the White Sox to gain on both Detroit and Cleveland went bye bye Wednesday night as Jered Weaver pitched seven innings of four-hit ball in his first start since signing an $85 million contract extension, and his seven innings of work had the Sox looking quite impotent in losing 8-0. In fact,the Sox remained 1/2 game in back of the Indians for second place.They still trail the Tigers by 6 1/2 games as time keeps ticking away. Hawk Harrelson said it could still happen,but even he has to know that it doesn't appear to be in the cards. After taking Thursday off,the Sox face the Mariners three times in the Emerald City this weekend,and they will not have to face Felix Hernandez who beat Cleveland Wednesday. A sweep of pretty much needed as two of three may not be good enough at this stage.This White Sox team has not shown any consistency during the season,and that is why they are again under .500.

***Randy Wells looked good in edging the Atlanta Braves Wednesday at Wrigley Field.Yet another addition to this second straight late season of meaningless wins.

***Interesting in that new Bears WR Roy Williams politely argued with reporters at Hal;as Hall Wednesday about whether he had any 'dropped balls' Saturday night against the Giants. Williams gave credit to NYG defensive backs for breaking up passes,but he insisted that he did not have any drops. Coaches were clearly not happy with his first two performances as a Bear, and he is still looking for his first catch. Lance Briggs and Anthony Adams will again both sit out when the Bears face the Tennessee Titans in Nashville Saturday night. Briggs may not play until the September 11 opener against Matt Ryan and Atlanta at Soldier Field.
