Woman Found Dead In Vacant Lot Was Strangled

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman whose body was found in a vacant lot near Washington Park over the weekend was strangled, an autopsy determined on Monday.

The woman's partially-clothed body was found Sunday morning, face down at 5425 S. Calumet Ave., in the Washington Park neighborhood just half a block west of the park.

Police said someone called 911 around 9 a.m. Sunday upon finding the body of the woman, who appeared to be in her 30s.

The woman remained unidentified as of Monday morning, but an autopsy determined she had been strangled and her death was ruled a homicide.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
