LOMBARD, Ill. (CBS) — A 42-year-old Los Angeles woman will long remember her 2011 summer trip to the Chicago area, and not for happy reasons.
As WBBM Newsradio’s Bernie Tafoya reports, Carrie Brown was bitten by a bedbug during her stay at the TownePlace Suites Chicago Lombard, and the bites were so bad that she says she couldn’t walk or stand on one of her legs, the Daily Herald reported.

Brown had an estimated 50 bites, and was hospitalized for the last couple of days at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove because infections had set in, the Daily Herald reports.
Brown’s bed partner found a bedbug in the hotel bed and took a picture of it before killing it. The partner was not bitten, the newspaper reported.
Brown was in the Chicago area for a cake-decorating class, and says she missed a couple of days of it because she was in the hospital, the Daily Herald reported.
The hotel has not issued a comment.

If she’s from Watt’s, then she brought those bed bugs with her to Chicago!

It’s such a nightmare for those of us who travel often for work. I haven’t had a prolem yet, but it’s a constant concern. She could have picked up that bug on a plane, at the airport, in the hotel, at a restaurant, in a movie theater…pretty much any public place where people sit around. And, God forbid you carry them home in your luggage.

How can one person receive 50 bites and her “bed partner” not be bitten? Something just doesn’t sound right here. I think this smells funny. Hope they investigate.

@Larry E: Bedbugs often hide in the part of the mattress closest to the wall, so could easily stop and only feed on the person laying there. Like going to the closet restaurant.
