Man Shot Dead On Street In South Austin

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed a man in the South Austin neighborhood Thursday evening.

The man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office a Frank Qualls, was shot about 6:08 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of North Parkside Avenue, according to police News Affairs.

He had been walking down the street when someone came up and opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Qualls was shot in the head, neck and shoulder, and was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where he later died, according to police News Affairs. He lived several blocks away in the 0-99 block of North Lotus Avenue, according to the Medical Examiner's office.

No one was in custody in the shooting as of Friday morning.
