Man Charged With Rape At Home Of Bears' Meriweather

(CBS) A Mississippi man has been charged with raping a woman at the home of Bears' safety Brandon Meriweather, according to the Sun Chronicle in Attleboro, Mass.

The report says James Roberts, 29, of Biloxi, Miss. allegedly raped the woman July 13 at the safety's residence in Foxboro, Mass. He pleaded innocent during his Aug. 25 arraignment.

Meriweather has not been charged with a crime.

The safety was released by the Patriots Sept. 3 and signed with the Bears the next day. It's unclear whether this incident had anything to do with his release.

Meriweather was questioned by Orlando police in March after a shooting but was not charged. In 2006, he was involved in a shooting in Miami, but was not charged in that incident either.
