EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) — An 81-year-old Evanston man is dead, after he was hit by a CTA bus while riding his bike earlier this week.

Lane Swanson was injured when he was riding his bike and collided with the side of the bus about 10 a.m. Monday at 1215 Dodge Ave. in Evanston, about a block south of Dempster Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The bus was northbound on Dodge Avenue with passengers when Swanson, who was also northbound and wearing a helmet, veered out of the designated bike lane and collided with the right side of the bus, according to a statement from police. He was conscious at the scene when he was taken to the hospital.

Swanson, of the 1100 block of Oak Avenue in Evanston, was pronounced dead Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston at 12:14 p.m. Tuesday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
