Frenzied Brides Swarm Dress Racks At Filene's Basement

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hundreds of frenzied women on a mission created pandemonium Friday morning at Filene's Basement on State Street.

As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, for the annual running of the brides, hundreds of brides-to-be and their team members grabbed dresses and tore off clothes, after some of them waited all night in line outside the store at 1 N. State St.

"We just grabbed everything, and then we figure we'll trade," one woman said.

Another woman and her team estimated that they had picked out as many as 100 dresses.

A third woman was standing among dozens of dresses her team collected.

She said she came at "4:30 yesterday afternoon, determined to get my dress, and I found it, I'm so excited – on the third try," she said.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday only. Similar events are held on different dates at Filene's locations in Westchester County, N.Y.; Washington, D.C.; and suburban Boston.
