CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Cook County Sheriff's officer is "safe and sound'' Saturday morning after he went missing Thursday in East Chicago neighborhood on the South Side.

Willie Jackson, 53, is "safe and sound,'' and has returned home, according to a police News Affairs statement.

Jackson was last seen Thursday wearing his Cook County Sheriff's uniform and a red jacket in the area of 9600 S. Commercial Ave., according to a community alert from Calumet Area detectives.

Jackson parked his vehicle in front of his home and left his wallet containing his sheriff's identification, the alert said. He was carrying his duty weapon and his driver's license.
