Officer Treated For Smoke Inhalation After Helping Four Escape Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A police officer was treated for minor smoke inhalation after responding to a Lincoln Park fire early Sunday.

The fire broke out in the 2100 block of North Clark Street about 12:30 a.m. at a restaurant that is not yet open and under construction, police said. Smoke filled an apartment above and the officer inhaled smoke while helping four people get out.

Paramedics were called and the officer and residents were treated at the scene, police said. Two adults and two children were temporarily displaced, but the smoke damage appears to be minor enough that they will be able to return.
