Butler: Cutler's Critics Are 'Stupid'

(WSCR) When Jay Cutler is mentioned, criticism usually isn't far behind, but one former Packer thinks people have it all wrong about the Bears signal caller.

"People are stupid," LeRoy Butler told the Mully and Hanley Show on Tuesday. "I mean, let's be honest. How can you fairly, judge Jay Cutler when the guy has been sacked 63 times?  Trust me, I don't like the Bears, let's put that on the table, but I'm a football fan. I feel sorry for the guy. Everybody wants him to be like Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Aaron Rodgers, but he doesn't have the weapons they have. He doesn't have the offensive line that they have."

Since he joined the Bears in 2009, Cutler has been criticized for his demeanor on the sideline.

"Every time he looks away (people say,) 'Oh, what's wrong with Jay Cutler? If I were him, I'd go to the sideline and just put a mask on so nobody could see what I'm doing," Butler said.

Butler said Cutler just doesn't have the same weapons he had while in Denver -- something that has hurt the quarterback since he was traded to Chicago. Mainly, his offensive line that has given up 11 sacks through the first two games of the season.

"If you go back and look at what he had in Denver, he had a true, No. 1 wide receiver, a decent offensive life..." Butler said. "He's one of the best athletic quarterbacks in the league, but the problem is, when you're always looking up and seeing a different color jersey in your face, it's hard to distribute the ball."
