(CBS) Illinois kicker Derek Dimke was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week Monday and running back Donovonn Young earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.
Dimke connected on all three of his field goal attempts (39, 35 and 21 yards) in Illinois’ 23-20 win over Western Michigan Saturday. The final kick proved to be the game-winner.
Meanwhile, Young racked up 100 yards rushing and a touchdown on just 12 carries Saturday. His 14-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave the Illini a 17-13 lead over the Broncos.
These were the first career weekly honors for both Dimke and Young.
