White House? Hampton Says No Thanks

(WSCR) As the 1985 Superbowl champion Chicago Bears gear up for a trip to the White House more than 25 years in the making, one Hall of Famer won’t be making the trip to Washington.

Four-time Pro Bowler Dan Hampton has decided not to join his teammates at the White House for a few reasons.

“It’s my own personal choice,” Hampton told The Mully and Hanley Show on Monday. “I don’t choose to go. No family, no kids (are allowed at the White House.) Honey’s going to the White House, and you tell your kids and your wife, ‘Oh, I’m sorry. You’re not invited.’ Secondly, I’m not a fan of the guy in the White House, and third, it was 25 years ago. Let it go.”

The Bears missed the traditional celebration because their 46-10 victory over New England came two days before the Space Challenger exploded, killing the entire crew.

“It basically just rolled off our backs, and now, 25 years later to say, ‘Let’s put the band back together.’ No, I’m not in,” Hampton said.

Not a fan of yours anymore Mr. Hampton. Your guy didn’t see fit to invite you to the Whitehouse. President Obama, a fan from your own city, did attempting to rectify a slight to the Bear organization. I’ll be tuning you out from now on.

Who is “his guy”? The Bears weren’t “slighted”….they won the Super Bowl 2 days before the Challenger exploded and there are a few things more important than winning a football game….not many, but that would be one of them. I guess you don’t have much tolerance for diverse opinions, huh?

  • Jerry Buller

I wasn’t a fan of any Chicago Bears until now. Dan has my respect, even if I don’t cheer for current Bears teams. He did not want to be used by the narcissist in chief for a photo op.

    • Johnny Crockett

The Bears STILL suck, but Dan Hampton is classic!

  • Ozzie's Yacht

So, not only is Hampton a blubbering idiot on the mic, or “cream of the class, if you will,” but also a partisan buffoon.

You may not like the President, Dan, but no one cares.

Thanks for validating my thoughts regarding your senseless blathering.

  • susan

I’m now a fan of Dan Hampton. Honor more than Glory.

  • Al

Dan Hampton does commercials for General Motors…. The ” Guy in the White House” helped save that company. …but he’s “not a fan”….I’m so confused !

  • polynikes

The guy in the White House did not save GM. He did though defy bankruptcy law and left bond holders holding the bag and giving what was lawfully theirs to the unions. You are confused and likey have no problem taking money from some to give to others.

  • ann

I will be turning Mr. Hampton in to attackwatch.com.

How dare he not agree to be a prop for the narcissist in chief.

  • hughglass

Hope Ditka follows suit and tells the bum in the white house to pound sand. Always liked Hampton.

  • Leroy Maye

So Presidents that invite championship teams to the White House are now narcissists. Would you freakin’ hypocrites just say I do not like the black guy in office and therefore I will not attend. Stop making up bs reasons not to support any potentially positive endeavor by this president. Be a freakin’ man.

    • hughglass

I’m still waiting for the first ” positive endeavor by this president”. Haven’t seen one yet. And give the race card a rest. 60% of Americans do not approve of the the job obama is doing..and it has nothing to do with race.

Politics aside, it is a simple matter of respect. Dan Hampton is showing no respect to the leader of the U.S.A. and that makes me lose respect for him. There are a lot of people who feel Hampton shouldn’t have been voted into the Hall of Fame.
