CHICAGO (CBS) – A man who robbed a Loop bank branch on Friday is suspected of hitting the same bank at least two other times in the past two months, authorities said.

A man in his 40s wearing a dark long-sleeve shirt, a beige tie, black pants, tan military-style hat, tan jacket and a backpack walked into the Chicago Community Bank branch at 52 E. Lake St. at about 9:30 a.m. and handed a teller a threatening note demanding money, according to Chicago police and the FBI.

The suspect implied he had a weapon and, when the teller complied with his demands, he fled east on foot along Lake Street. No one was hurt during the robbery.

Authorities believe the same man robbed the same bank branch two other times since August.

On Sept. 6, at about 3 p.m., a man walked into the bank, demanded money and fled, police said.

Another robbery occurred Aug. 12 by a man wearing a tie.

The suspect handed the teller a note demanding money and pointed a handgun wrapped in a newspaper, police said. The teller complied and the man fled westbound on Lake Street, Perez said.

The robber in the August heist was described as a black man about 30, with a slim build, wearing a black baseball cap, black shirt and pants, gold or beige tie and sunglasses. He was about 5-foot-8 and carrying a backpack.

According to the FBI, the suspect in Friday’s robbery is also believed to be the robber in the other two cases.

Curious

What ever happened to armed security in banks? These people could be shot in the back of the head as they approach the door to exit the bank. I just don’t get how anyone can successfully rob a bank.
