Ind. Governor: We'd Take Bears' Cutler In Manning's Absence

CHICAGO (CBS) – It's bad enough the governor of Indiana is trying to lure Illinois jobs to his own state. Now he wants our quarterback.

Daniels said now that his beloved Indianapolis Colts lost quarterback Payton Manning to injury, he would put out the welcome mat for the Bears' Jay Cutler.

"We would welcome him home. He's one of ours, you know," Daniels told CBS 2 in a lighter moment during a Chicago appearance. "We root for Jay Cutler, you bet."

Cutler hails from Santa Claus, Ind.

Daniels, a Republican, spoke at the Union League Club and signed copies of his new book, "Keeping the Republic."

He is among a handful of governors from other states who have courted Illinois businesses in the wake of a controversial income-tax hike here. That has annoyed the administration of Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, a Democrat.
