CHICAGO (CBS) — An Albany Park neighborhood man is dead, after losing control of his scooter and falling nearly 20 feet from an overpass on Lake Shore Drive.

Abul Yasin, 24, of the 4500 block of North Whipple Street, was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center at 8:22 p.m., according a spokeswoman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The wreck occurred about 8 p.m. in the northbound lanes, near the LaSalle Drive-North Avenue exit according to Near North District police Capt. Jerome Fluder.

A witness told police the victim man was traveling in the center lane when he hit a pothole and lost control of the scooter.

He was ejected from the bridge over LaSalle Drive and fell 15 to 18 feet, according to Fluder. He did not have any passengers and it was not known immediately if he was wearing a helmet.

Emergency crews responded to LaSalle Drive below and initially took the man to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with trauma, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Kevin MacGregor said.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
