Report: Cherington To Be Named Red Sox GM

(CBS) Cubs fans looking for a definite sign that Theo Epstein is coming to Chicago can take solace in the fate of Ben Cherington.

Cherington, who joined the Red Sox as an intern in 1997 and was hired full-time in '99, has been chosen to replace Epstein as general manager of the Red Sox, Yahoo Sports reports.

Cherington has been Epstein's right-hand man for the past three season.

Neither the Cubs nor the Red Sox have officially confirmed that Eptstein is coming to Chicago, though reports indicate a deal is in place pending compensation.
