Red Sox Deny Theo Deal Is Close
(CBS) The Red Sox are denying multiple reports that say a compensation deal for Theo Epstein is almost done, including one that said the Cubs would hold a press conference Friday to announce Epstein as the team's new president of baseball operations.
According to the Boston Globe, both Red Sox owner John Henry and GM-to-be Ben Cherington have indicated those reports are premature.
When asked by the Globe if the deal was close, Henry responded via text: "No, not close."
The Chicago Tribune reported earlier Thursday that a press conference would be held Friday at Wrigley Field to announce Epstein's hiring.
In addition, The Boston Globe reported that the Cubs would be sending a "package of prospects" to Boston as compensation.
