CHICAGO (STMW) — The gang member who murdered gifted DePaul University Francisco “Frankie” Valencia Jr. was sentenced to 90 years in prison Friday.

Narcisco Gatica gunned down Valencia, 21, and injured Valencia’s friend after he and others were asked to leave a Halloween party, in the 1700 block of North Rockwell two years ago.

Gatica’s co-defendant and fellow Maniac Latin Disciple, Berly Valladares, was sentenced to 70 years in prison for the murder in June.

Valladares had supplied Gatica, 21, with the TEC-9 semiautomatic handgun used in the shootings, according to Cook County prosecutors.

Valencia’s family said he dreamed of running for office so he could serve as a voice for Latino youth. Valencia was set to receive the Lincoln Laureate Award when he was slain.
